West Queen Dam #3 Bypass Spillway

About the project

The West Queen Dam project consisted of a bulk excavation to lower and widen the existing spillway into the natural embankment to create a larger bypass channel; to protect the existing 100-year-old heritage concrete dam structure and to maintain the reduction of the of the dam's storage capacity.

It involved relocating approximately 40, 000m3 along the northern embankment to create a new landscape while adhering to protecting the surrounding environment during construction. The project was completed on time and on budget over an 8 week period in the middle of winter.
